The three statues

Long ago there lived a king.It so happened that the king always was having issues with almost all the neighbour kingdoms about one thing or the other. The root cause of the problems were the king's friends who used to create misunderstandings by gossiping and spreading lies about other kings.
A neighbour king, who had fallen prey to the king's friends' lies and was attacked unnecessarily all the time, wanted to make the king understand this.He decided to send his messenger. He arrived at the king's court and bowed to the king.
He said,"My king sends his regards and would like you to have this gift".
The king took the box and opened it.Inside he saw three beautiful statues that all looked the same.
The messenger said,"Your majesty,my king has instructed me to tell you that even though the statues look alike, they are different. My king wishes you to choose one of the three and return the others".
Everyone around the king became curious. The prime minister looked at the statues and scratched his head in wonder. The king studied them all again but was unable to decide how the statues were different.
He said to the messenger,"There must be some hidden meaning that i am not able to see right now.I need some more time. Please leave the statues here and come back tomorrow".
The king had a young son who was very clever. The king called him to his court and said,"There are three lovely statues in this box.I have to choose one and send the others back,See if you can find any difference between them".
For a long time the prince did many tests comparing the statues. Finally an idea flashed in his mind.He put the three statues in a bowl of water. His face lit up as he watched small bubbles rise in the water. He ran to the father's court.
Everyone eagerly watched him as he entered the hall. The prince picked up one of the statues and passed a long slender needle through one ear and it came the other side.
He said,"Some people listen to a thing with one ear and let it go out the other. That kind of friend doesnt really listen to another friend's problems. The message is you shouldnt be friends with such people'.
The prince picked the second statue and passed a needle through its ear. This time the needle came out of the mouth.
He said,"Some people listen to a thing and soon tell it to others.Such people are very hard to trust. The message is that such people dont make good friends'.
The prince picked the third statue and passed a needle through its ear. This time the needle went in but its end did not come out at all.
He said,"Some people listen to a thing and keep it to themselves. The message is that this kind of people make best kind of friends".
Soon the king understood that the neighbour king was indicating something regarding his friends and made up his mind to cross check his friends. He appreciated his son for solving the puzzle and rewarded him suitably.
When the messenger arrived to know what statue was king's choice, the king told him that he would want to keep all of them as a reminder about the message his good neighbour was trying to send.He also assured that from then on,there would be no issues with the neighbour's kingdom. The king as a token of gratitude sent lot of gifts and valuables to the neighbour king with a message that they would be friends forever.

[p.s: have you had such friends who listen to everything about you-good and ugly through best and worst phases and yet keep it to themselves? Me being the same kind of person, has attracted such people among the 'very few friends' in life. Not even once have they brought dishonour to my dignity. So i dedicate this story to all those friends-Manjunath,Harini,Annu,Navya and Pavan, to remind them that they are the best kind of friend anyone in the world can have.I got so many of them.So i consider myselves lucky. Thanks for choosing me to be your friend :-)]
